One of the most selfless acts we can do for one another is look out for those who might be struggling. There are many incredible charities that serve as the vehicle for extending a helping hand. The credible ones will ensure a smooth transition every time and will never cause you to lose sleep and will work to keep your credit card transactions safe so that youre able to continue to do good. There are a few things to keep in mind, though, so that your kindness isnt taken advantage of.

Full disclosure: I have never read a Jane Austen novel, my forebears were murderous mountain Scots, not British dandies in ascots, and my Old Vic was an uncle who drank.

Nevertheless, I’m hooked on the BBC period drama “Downton Abbey” and I think I know why: “Downton” mirrors the financial and cultural turmoil of our times. Just with better hats.

For the uninitiated, “Downton Abbey” (carried on the PBS network in the United States) begins in 1912 on the selfsame fictional Yorkshire estate of the Earl of Grantham, a position currently held by Robert Crawley.

All types of unattended point-of-sale (POS) terminals can be programmed to not process credit card transactions above a pre-set amount. There are also, however, limits on the highest allowable amounts that merchants can process on cards at unattended terminals, which are set by the Associations and exceeding them leads to automatic chargebacks.

Visa issuers use Reason Code 96 to designate chargebacks resulting from transactions that exceed the limit. In this article I will review the specific circumstances in which this reason code can be used and what merchants can do to prevent or remedy it.
